Vegetable patch

The vegetable patch, although small in size, represents an educational and cultural resource of great value. Built inside a chestnut wood box measuring 1.8 metres by 5 metres, this small garden bears witness to the importance of subsistence farming for the rural communities of the Karst region. During the educational activities organised in the garden, children and young people have the opportunity to closely observe the growth cycles of plants and learn some sustainable agricultural practices such as the use of synergistic species, mulching with straw, irrigation with rainwater collected from a nearby cistern. Educational visits with the children are often concluded at the vegetable patch to give them the opportunity to understand the origin of some of the vegetables they often see already cleaned cut and packaged at the supermarket.
