9th November: dead wood, living forest

9th November: dead wood, living forest

In forests, the abundance of dead wood has long been considered an indicator of degradation. Today, we know for certain that it is instead a fundamental component for maintaining and increasing biodiversity, playing a key role in numerous ecological processes and representing a fundamental microhabitat for many species of vertebrates and invertebrates.

On Sunday 9 November at 10.30 a.m., Carsiana will be open for a special walk along the garden paths with botanist and naturalist Pierpaolo Merluzzi 🌳.

We will discover why protecting dead wood means protecting the very life of the forest.
