As the Christmas holidays approach, bringing with them an atmosphere rich in meaning, there is no shortage of significance conveyed by our relationship with the plant kingdom. The fir tree, the classic Christmas tree, is a typical example, but it is not alone: there are many plants associated with this holiday which, with their ritual meanings and properties, tell us ancient stories once again, reminding us that even in the cold and dark winter there are seeds of hope and rebirth.
