In temperate zones, with hot and cold, wet and dry seasons, tree trunks have growth rings of varying thickness. From the data emerging from the study of these rings, we can make inferences about past climate.
The study of these rings, dendrochronology, helps us observe climatic changes, the pattern of seasons in past years, and the effects of silvicultural interventions. At Carsiana we will examine samples of old logs together to understand the techniques used to obtain the data and the inferences we can draw from them.
